Max Cor CF Epoxy Primer Application Guide

Max Cor CF Epoxy Primer (Controlled Fusion Technology)

How and Why to Use Max Cor CF

Max Cor CF Epoxy Primer is a high-performance, chromate-free corrosion primer engineered for aluminum and steel in marine and industrial environments. Designed with Controlled Fusion Technology, it chemically bonds to properly prepared metal surfaces to create a durable, corrosion-resistant foundation for subsequent coatings.

This system is ideal for aluminum boats, towers, structural components, and steel parts where long-term adhesion and corrosion protection are critical. Max Cor CF also improves workflow efficiency by allowing recoating without sanding within its extended recoat window, making it a preferred choice for professional applicators.

Max Cor CF is a high solids, chromate-free epoxy primer designed specifically for aluminum and steel substrates.

  • Provides excellent corrosion resistance
  • Allows recoating without sanding within window
  • Designed for professional marine and industrial applications
  • Above waterline use only
  • Mix Ratio: 2:1 (Base OR4330 : Converter OR3330)
  • Reducer: None — do not reduce
  • Pot Life: Approximately 2 hours at 77°F
Always fully mix base before adding converter. Poor mixing can lead to adhesion failure.
  • Aluminum: Sandblast or grind to clean metal with 2–3 mil profile
  • Steel: SSPC-SP10 or Sa2.5 blast profile
  • Surface must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants
  • Use proper solvent wipe before coating
  • Application Method: Spray only
  • Coats: One full wet coat
  • Dry Film Thickness: Approximately 1 mil
  • Tip Size: 0.85–1.10 mm
  • Air Pressure: 26–51 PSI
Substrate visibility after application is normal for corrosion primers.
Do not apply below 59°F or above 105°F surface temperature.
  • Hard Dry: Approximately 4 hours at 77°F
  • Pot Life: 2 hours
  • Recoat Window: 17–72 hours
No sanding required if recoated within this window.
If exceeded, coating must be removed or transitioned to a compatible system.

Coverage Calculator

Coverage is based on approximately 904 ft² per gallon. This is an estimate and actual results will vary depending on application conditions and surface profile.

Professional Notes

  • This is a corrosion primer — not a build or surfacing primer
  • Follow with Awlgrip 545 or a high-build primer for fairing systems
  • Ideal for aluminum boats, towers, and steel structures
  • Extended recoat window improves production efficiency
