What Is Awlcraft 3000?

Awlcraft 3000 is Awlgrip’s next-generation, full-gloss acrylic urethane topcoat for yacht hulls, boat topsides, decks and superstructures. It uses AkzoNobel’s advanced color platform—the same color technology used with Awlgrip HDT—to produce truer, deeper and more vibrant colors.

Awlcraft 3000 is intended for professional spray application above the waterline. It should not be rolled or brushed, and it is not designed for continuously submerged or below-waterline surfaces.

What Components Are Required?

Awlcraft 3000 is a complete coating system, not a single ready-to-spray can. The color base is mixed 2:1 by volume with Awlcat #2 Spray Converter (G3010). The mixed coating is then reduced with the appropriate Awlgrip spray reducer for the temperature, humidity, equipment and application conditions.

Proper surface preparation and compatible primers are also essential. Awlcraft 3000 is commonly applied over properly prepared Awlgrip 545 Epoxy Primer or another manufacturer-approved Awlgrip primer system.

Awlcraft 3000 vs. Awlcraft 2000

Awlcraft 3000 retains the familiar application characteristics that professional painters know from Awlcraft 2000, including the same 2:1 base-to-G3010 mix ratio and compatible reducer family. Its primary advancement is the newer AkzoNobel color platform, which provides enhanced color depth, accuracy and consistency.

Both finishes are spray-applied, buffable and repairable. Awlcraft 3000 is generally the better choice when the newest color technology, vibrant color appearance and future color consistency are priorities.
