What pads, compounds, and polishes should I use after wet-sanding gel coat?

  1. Compounding (cut): Use a wool cutting pad (Buff and Shine®) with a quality marine cutting compound (Starke® or Presta®). Work at low–medium rotary speed, overlap passes, and keep the panel cool.
  2. Polishing (refine & gloss): Switch to a foam polishing pad (Buff and Shine®) with a finishing polish (Starke® or Presta®) to remove haze and bring up the gloss.
  3. Optional protection: Finish with a marine sealant or wax after polishing.

Tips: Keep pads clean, don’t skip steps, and match pad aggressiveness to your last sanding grit (heavier cut if you stopped at 1000–1500; lighter cut if you finished at 2000–3000).

We stock: Buff and Shine® wool & foam pads and Starke® / Presta® compounds and polishes for every stage.
