Which roller should I use to apply gel coat?
Recommended: A 3/16" nap pink mohair roller cover. Mohair fibers lay gel coat smoothly with minimal lint and resist solvents in polyester gel coat systems.
- Why 3/16"? It holds enough material for even build without heavy orange peel. It also tracks flat on fair surfaces.
- When to change nap: On non-skid or rough areas, a 1/4" mohair can help with coverage, but expect more texture; plan to sand/flow-coat accordingly.
- What to avoid: Foam rollers often introduce air and break down with styrene. Choose solvent-resistant cores (phenolic or plastic), not cardboard.
- Prep & technique: De-lint the sleeve (tape or compressed air), strain gel coat, load evenly, and roll in short, overlapping passes. Maintain a wet edge and avoid over-rolling. For a flatter finish, tip off immediately with a high-quality natural-bristle brush.
- What we stock: Fiberglass Florida carries pink mohair roller covers (3/16" nap) plus accessories to match your project size.
