Backing Pad
Backing Pads & Interface Pads
Choose the right backing pad for sanding discs and sheets across marine repair, surfboard building, composites, and auto finishing. We stock PSA (peel-and-stick) and hook-and-loop (Velcro) pads in 5", 6", and 8" sizes, plus interface pads and quick-change Roloc holders.
Ferro PSA Sanding Pads (Configurable)
Peel-and-stick pads for fast disc changes and secure adhesion.
- 70596V — Medium: balanced flex for contours & fairing.
- 70516V — Hard: maximum support for flat, aggressive leveling.
Pick the Right Backing Pad
| Use Case | Attachment | Size | Density | Thread / Mount | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flat leveling, heavy cut | PSA | 5" / 6" / 8" | Hard | 5/16"-24 or M8 | Best for fillers, gelcoat leveling, panel flats (e.g., 70516V). |
| Contours & fairing | PSA / Hook & Loop | 5" / 6" | Medium | 5/16"-24 or M8 | Balanced support and flex (e.g., 70596V). |
| Ultra-fine finishing | Hook & Loop + Interface | 5" / 6" | Soft interface | 5/16"-24 or M8 | Reduces swirl with 600–2000 grit Rhyno Red/ Wet. |
| Small-area grinding | Roloc Quick-Change | 2" / 3" | Rigid | Roloc mandrel | Tight spots, welds, spot repairs (24–50 grit). |
| Longboard fairing | PSA Sheets | 2.75" x 16.5" | Medium/Hard board | File board | Use with Indasa 960 series for wave-free panels. |
- PSA = fastest swap, strongest hold for leveling; Hook & Loop = best for multi-grit finishing workflows.
- Add a soft interface pad for 600–2000 grit to minimize pigtails on gelcoat and clear coat.
- Confirm thread (5/16"-24 or M8) matches your sander/backing plate.
Which pad density should I use?
Use hard for flat leveling and aggressive stock removal. Use medium for curved areas and fairing. Add a soft interface for ultra-fine finishing.
PSA vs Hook & Loop?
PSA sticks firmly for heavy cutting; Hook & Loop makes quick grit changes and pairs well with interface pads for finishing.
What sizes match which discs?
Use 5", 6", or 8" pads with the same-size discs. For color sanding and polishing prep, 5" or 6" H&L with an interface pad gives the smoothest finish.
