5" Indasa Rhynogrip Red Line Fine Finishing Discs
Indasa Rhynogrip Red Line 510 Series discs are premium 5" hook-and-loop abrasives for fine sanding and surface refinement from P800 through P2000. They are designed for dry sanding gelcoat, cured fiberglass repairs, marine topcoats, clear coats, paint and other finished composite surfaces before compounding and polishing.
The fine aluminum-oxide abrasive produces a consistent scratch pattern, while the flexible latex-paper backing conforms to curved and contoured surfaces commonly found on boat hulls, decks, molds, automotive panels and fabricated composite parts. A clog-resistant lubricant coating helps maintain cutting performance when sanding coatings and finished surfaces.
Designed for Gelcoat and Fiberglass Finishing
These fine-grit discs are especially useful after structural fiberglass work, fairing and primer sanding have already been completed. They help refine the final surface, remove progressively finer scratches and prepare cured gelcoat or paint for the compounding and polishing stages.
- Refining cured gelcoat repairs
- Removing fine sanding scratches from gelcoat
- Leveling minor gelcoat texture and surface defects
- Preparing repaired fiberglass panels for polishing
- Blending localized boat-hull and deck repairs
- Refining marine topcoats and clear coats
- Correcting dust nibs and minor paint imperfections
- Preparing painted surfaces for compound
- Micro-finishing molds and composite parts
- Progressively refining scratches before final polishing
Which Grit Should You Use?
| Grit | Part Number | Recommended Use |
|---|---|---|
| P800 | 510-800 | Initial fine sanding, refining P600 scratches, leveling light gelcoat texture and correcting more noticeable surface defects. |
| P1000 | 510-1000 | Refining P800 scratches, correcting light imperfections and beginning the pre-polish sanding sequence. |
| P1200 | 510-1200 | Fine scratch refinement on gelcoat, topcoat and clear coat before moving to P1500. |
| P1500 | 510-1500 | Pre-compounding refinement that reduces the depth of earlier sanding scratches and helps shorten the polishing process. |
| P2000 | 510-2000 | Final dry-sanding refinement before the appropriate compound and polishing system. |
Do not skip large jumps between grits. Each sanding step should fully remove the scratch pattern left by the previous grit. Clean and inspect the surface between steps so deeper scratches are not carried into the polishing stage.
Suggested Gelcoat Refinishing Sequence
- Begin with the least aggressive grit capable of correcting the defect.
- Use P800 only when the surface requires meaningful leveling or P600 scratch refinement.
- Progress through P1000, P1200, P1500 and P2000 as needed.
- Clean the surface thoroughly between every grit change.
- Inspect the scratch pattern under bright, angled lighting.
- Compound the surface with a product appropriate for the final sanding grit.
- Follow with a finishing polish to restore gloss and clarity.
The exact starting grit and finishing sequence depend on the condition and hardness of the gelcoat or coating. Always follow the coating, gelcoat, compound or polishing-product manufacturer’s recommendations.
Why Choose Indasa Red Line?
- Consistent scratch pattern: Produces a uniform surface that is easier to inspect and progressively refine.
- High-quality aluminum oxide: Provides dependable cutting action throughout the finishing sequence.
- Flexible backing: Adapts to curved hulls, decks, corners and contoured composite surfaces.
- Clog-resistant coating: Helps reduce loading when sanding gelcoat, topcoats, paint and clear coat.
- Strong resin bond: Helps minimize premature abrasive-grain shedding.
- Rhynogrip attachment: Allows quick grit changes and easy reuse of partially used discs.
- Full finishing progression: One abrasive line covers P800 through P2000 for continuity of finish.
Hook & Loop for Multi-Grit Finishing
The Rhynogrip hook-and-loop system is ideal for progressive finishing because discs can be changed quickly as the surface moves from P800 to P1000, P1200, P1500 and P2000. Unlike PSA adhesive discs, hook-and-loop discs can be removed without leaving adhesive on the backing pad.
Use these discs with a compatible 5" hook-and-loop backing pad. A soft interface pad can be added when sanding curved or contoured gelcoat surfaces. The interface pad helps the abrasive follow the shape of the panel and can reduce uneven sanding pressure.
Dry Sanding Only
Rhynogrip Red Line is classified by Indasa as a dry-sanding abrasive. Do not assume that a fine grit is automatically waterproof or suitable for wet sanding.
For a wet-sanding process, select an abrasive specifically manufactured and rated for use with water, such as an appropriate waterproof finishing sheet or disc. Do not soak Rhynogrip Red Line discs or use them in standing water.
Not for Heavy Fiberglass Grinding
P800 through P2000 discs are intended for final surface refinement. They are not designed to remove thick fiberglass laminate, shape structural repairs or grind away heavy gelcoat buildup.
For aggressive fiberglass cutting and grinding, begin with a suitable coarse grinding disc or coarse sanding abrasive. Move into the Red Line P800–P2000 sequence only after the surface has been leveled and the heavier scratches have been progressively removed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can these discs be used to sand gelcoat?
Yes. P800 through P2000 Red Line discs are suited to dry fine sanding and progressive scratch refinement on cured gelcoat before compounding and polishing.
Are these discs suitable for fiberglass repairs?
Yes, after the fiberglass repair has been laminated, faired, primed or gelcoated and the surface is ready for final refinement. These fine grits are not intended for heavy laminate removal.
Can I wet sand with Rhynogrip Red Line?
No. Indasa classifies Rhynogrip Red Line as a dry-sanding abrasive. Use a dedicated waterproof abrasive for wet-sanding applications.
Should I start with P800?
Only when the defect or existing scratch pattern requires it. Begin with the least aggressive grit that will correct the surface. Starting too coarse creates unnecessary scratches and additional finishing work.
Which grit should I use before compounding?
P1500 or P2000 is commonly used as a final refinement stage, but the correct final grit depends on the gelcoat, paint system and cutting ability of the selected compound.
Do these discs have vacuum holes?
No. The Indasa 510 Series is a solid, no-hole disc. For through-the-disc dust extraction, choose a compatible vacuum-pattern or mesh abrasive.
Do I need an interface pad?
An interface pad is not always required, but it is helpful on curved hulls, rounded corners and contoured surfaces. It provides additional flexibility and helps distribute sanding pressure.
How many discs are included?
Each box contains 50 discs in the selected grit.
What is the difference between Red Line and White Line?
Red Line is Indasa’s higher-performance abrasive line and is available through the fine P800–P2000 finishing range. White Line is positioned as an economical general-purpose production abrasive.
