Tacky Disc Adhesive for Sandpaper and Sanding Pads – 16 oz
Tacky Disc Adhesive is a specialty sandpaper adhesive designed to attach abrasive paper and sanding discs to compatible sanding pads. It is especially useful for surfboard shaping, fiberglass sanding, composite fabrication, marine repair and other applications where sandpaper needs to be securely held to a flexible or power sanding pad.
What is Tacky Disc Adhesive? Tacky Disc Adhesive is a specialty sandpaper adhesive used to attach abrasive paper and sanding discs to compatible sanding pads. It is commonly used for surfboard shaping, fiberglass sanding, composite fabrication and other applications where sanding discs are changed during the finishing process.
Unlike using permanently bonded sandpaper, Tacky Disc Adhesive is designed for sanding applications where abrasive discs may need to be changed as the job progresses through different sanding grits.
What Is Tacky Disc Adhesive Used For?
Tacky Disc Adhesive provides a convenient way to attach non-adhesive-backed sandpaper to a compatible sanding pad. Apply the adhesive to the abrasive paper or pad as appropriate, spread it across the working surface and attach the sandpaper before sanding.
This makes it particularly useful for fabricators and surfboard shapers who cut their own sanding discs or use sheet abrasive with flexible sanding pads.
Ideal for Surfboard Shaping and Sanding
Surfboard shaping and finishing often requires moving through several sanding grits while maintaining good control over the abrasive. Tacky sandpaper adhesive allows standard abrasive paper to be attached to compatible sanding pads used for shaping, blending and finishing surfboards.
It is a useful shop supply for:
- Surfboard shaping
- Surfboard sanding
- Surfboard repair
- Fiberglass finishing
- Hot-coat sanding
- Composite sanding
- Marine fiberglass repair
- Custom sanding disc applications
Great for Fiberglass and Composite Sanding
Tacky Disc Adhesive is not limited to surfboards. Fiberglass and composite shops frequently use flexible sanding pads to follow curved, contoured and irregular surfaces.
The adhesive allows compatible abrasive paper to be attached to the sanding pad so the abrasive stays in place while working across fiberglass and composite surfaces.
Common applications include:
- Fiberglass repair
- Gelcoat sanding
- Composite finishing
- Boat repair
- Plug and mold work
- Surfboard manufacturing
- Fairing and surface preparation
- General shop sanding
Why Use Sanding Disc Adhesive?
Not every abrasive is manufactured with a pressure-sensitive adhesive or hook-and-loop backing. Sanding disc adhesive gives fabricators another option by allowing compatible plain-backed abrasive paper to be attached to a sanding pad.
This can be especially useful when:
- You cut custom sanding discs from sheet abrasive
- Your preferred sandpaper is not available with PSA backing
- You regularly change between sanding grits
- You use flexible sanding pads for curved surfaces
- You need a dedicated adhesive for surfboard sanding pads
Tacky Disc Adhesive vs. PSA Sandpaper
Tacky Disc Adhesive and PSA sandpaper are two different attachment methods.
PSA sanding discs already have pressure-sensitive adhesive applied to the back of the abrasive. They are pressed directly onto a compatible smooth sanding pad.
Tacky Disc Adhesive is used with compatible sandpaper that does not already have an adhesive backing. The adhesive is applied separately so the abrasive can be attached to the sanding pad.
Which system is best depends on the sanding pad, abrasive and type of work being performed.
Tacky Disc Adhesive vs. Hook-and-Loop Sandpaper
Hook-and-loop sanding discs require a compatible hook-and-loop backing pad and abrasive disc. Tacky Disc Adhesive is intended for applications where a separately applied adhesive is preferred for holding the abrasive to a compatible sanding pad.
For surfboard shapers and fiberglass fabricators who use specialty sanding pads or cut their own abrasive discs, a tacky adhesive system can provide additional flexibility in abrasive selection.
How to Use Tacky Disc Adhesive
- Make sure the sanding pad and abrasive are clean and suitable for use with the adhesive.
- Apply a controlled amount of Tacky Disc Adhesive.
- Spread the adhesive across the attachment area as needed.
- Position the sandpaper or sanding disc onto the pad.
- Press the abrasive firmly against the sanding pad.
- Begin sanding once the abrasive is securely attached.
- Replace the abrasive when worn or when changing sanding grits.
Use only enough adhesive to securely hold the abrasive. Excessive adhesive may make abrasive changes and pad cleanup more difficult.
16 oz Shop-Size Bottle
The 16 oz bottle of Tacky Disc Adhesive is a convenient size for surfboard manufacturers, fiberglass shops, boatyards, composite fabricators and serious DIY users that regularly work with sanding pads and abrasive paper.
