Quick Overview

Partall Hi-Temp Paste Wax – 12 oz is a hard, high-carnauba mold release wax formulated for composite molding at elevated cure temperatures. It creates a durable, glossy sacrificial film that promotes clean releases and Class-A surface finishes on gel-coated, sealed, or metal tooling.

High-Temperature Mold Release Wax for Composite Molding

Partall Hi-Temp Paste Wax is a hard, high-carnauba mold release wax engineered for composite applications that generate higher cure temperatures. It forms a smooth, glossy sacrificial barrier between the mold surface and the laminate, helping ensure consistent releases and high-quality cosmetic finishes.

This wax performs reliably with polyester, vinyl ester, and epoxy resin systems and is well suited for gel-coated, sealed composite, and metal molds. It is commonly used in production environments where standard paste waxes may soften or lose effectiveness under heat.

Best For

  • Hand layup, vacuum bagging, and gelcoat or tooling operations
  • Polyester, vinyl ester, and epoxy resin systems
  • New, reconditioned, or complex molds
  • First pulls when paired with PVA for added release insurance

Key Benefits

  • High-temperature capable wax film for reliable mold release
  • High carnauba content for a durable, high-gloss finish
  • Consistent performance with thin, multiple-coat applications
  • Supports Class-A surface quality on finished parts

How to Apply

  1. Ensure the mold surface is clean, dry, and properly sealed or conditioned.
  2. Using a soft applicator, apply a thin, even coat of wax.
  3. Allow the wax to haze, then buff to a high gloss with a clean microfiber cloth.
  4. For new or reconditioned molds, apply 5–8 thin coats, allowing a few minutes between coats.
  5. For seasoned molds, 1–2 coats before each production run is typically sufficient.
  6. For difficult geometries or first pulls, apply PVA over the wax for additional release protection.

Application Tips

  • Thin coats provide more consistent releases than heavy applications.
  • Re-wax any area that has been touched, cleaned, or shows dulling of gloss.

Safety & Storage

  • Contains flammable solvents — use with adequate ventilation.
  • Store in a cool, dry place and keep the container tightly closed when not in use.

Customer Questions
Why is timing critical when building a polyester tooling mold?
Most polyester tooling molds are built using contact (open) molding, where tooling gel coat is applied first and allowed to gel before laminating. The laminate bonds to the cured gel coat through a secondary bond, which is inherently weaker than a ...
What type of tooling gel coat should be used for mold construction?
Tooling gel coat selection directly impacts mold surface quality, durability, and heat resistance. Isophthalic polyester tooling gel coats provide the highest natural gloss and smoothness but offer moderate strength and heat distortion temperature (...
What is the purpose of a barrier coat in tooling applications?
Barrier coats, typically vinyl ester based, are applied between the tooling gel coat and the laminate. Their primary function is to block fiber print-through and reduce surface distortion in the finished mold. Barrier coats also reinforce the ...
