Quick Overview

Awlfair LW D8200 is a premium epoxy fairing base used to smooth fiberglass surfaces, eliminate imperfections, and create a level, paint-ready finish for high-end marine coatings. It must be mixed with the D7200 Converter to properly cure and achieve full performance.

Awlfair LW D8200 is a premium epoxy fairing compound designed for smoothing irregular fiberglass surfaces and creating a level, uniform finish prior to primer and topcoat application. Commonly used in Awlgrip systems, it helps reduce surface drag while improving overall appearance and finish quality. It must be mixed with the D7200 Converter to properly cure and achieve full performance.

What is Awlfair LW Used For?

Awlfair LW is used for high-end marine fairing where precision, smoothness, and durability are critical. It is ideal for preparing fiberglass hulls, decks, and composite surfaces for professional coatings.

  • Fairing fiberglass boat hulls and decks
  • Eliminating surface imperfections and uneven areas
  • Creating a smooth base for Awlgrip topcoat systems
  • Improving hydrodynamics and surface appearance

Key Features

  • Epoxy-Based System: Superior adhesion and durability compared to polyester fillers
  • Ultra-Smooth Finish: Sands easily to a high-quality surface
  • High Build Capability: Apply up to 5–6mm per layer to correct larger imperfections
  • Above & Below Waterline Use: Suitable for full marine applications
  • Low Density: Lightweight and easy to shape

How It Works

Awlfair LW is a two-component system consisting of D8200 base and D7200 converter, mixed at a 1:1 ratio by volume. It is applied with a trowel or fairing tool and sanded once cured to achieve a smooth, level surface.

Where This Fits in Your Filler System

Awlfair is a premium marine fairing compound, used when the highest level of finish is required.

  • Use Q Cell for basic lightweight fairing
  • Use Aerosil (fumed silica) for structural thickening and bonding
  • Use polyester fairing compounds like F206 for general-purpose fairing
  • Use Awlfair for top-tier marine finishing and Awlgrip systems

Application Notes

  • Apply in layers up to 5–6mm to avoid air entrapment
  • Do not thin—mix components thoroughly to uniform color
  • Sand with 36–80 grit before recoating or priming
  • Must be sealed with an epoxy primer before final coating

Drying & Sanding

At 77°F (25°C), Awlfair LW is typically sandable in approximately 17 hours, depending on conditions.
