Looking for an Awlcraft 2000 color? Not all Awlcraft 2000 colors were carried forward into the 3000 line, and several popular colors were renamed. Classic colors such as Ice Blue, Light Blue, and Oyster White exist under new names in the Awlcraft 3000 system. Contact Fiberglass Florida — we'll help you find the right current color or source discontinued colors that are still available.
What Is Awlcraft 3000?
Awlcraft 3000 is a two-component, premium acrylic urethane marine topcoat manufactured by Awlgrip, an AkzoNobel brand. It is designed exclusively for professional spray application on above-waterline marine surfaces including boat hulls, topsides, cabin structures, and superstructures. Awlcraft 3000 is the direct successor to Awlcraft 2000 and retains the same proven base binders, mix ratio, application equipment compatibility, and repairability — now with a significantly enhanced color platform.
The key advancement in Awlcraft 3000 is the use of the AkzoNobel YSC toner system — the same color platform used in Awlgrip HDT. This delivers truer, deeper, and more vibrant colors than the previous 2000 generation, with an expanded color palette that includes shades not previously available in Awlcraft 2000.
Awlcraft 3000 vs. Awlcraft 2000 — What Changed?
Awlcraft 3000 is a direct upgrade to Awlcraft 2000. The base resin, mix ratio (2:1 base to Awlcat #2), compatible reducers (T0001–T0005), spray equipment setups, and application viscosity targets are identical. The primary change is the tinting system: Awlcraft 3000 uses the AkzoNobel YSC platform, producing colors with greater depth, consistency, and accuracy across the range.
Important — Awlcraft 2000 Colors and the Transition to 3000: Not every Awlcraft 2000 color was carried forward into the 3000 line. Some colors were discontinued entirely, and others were reformulated and renamed. Classic favorites such as Ice Blue, Light Blue, and Oyster White from the Awlcraft 2000 range now appear under new color names in the 3000 system. If you are trying to match or continue an existing Awlcraft 2000 color, contact the Fiberglass Florida team — we can help identify the correct current equivalent or advise on remaining stock of original 2000 colors.

Application Guide
Awlcraft 3000 is a professional-grade, spray-only topcoat. It is not designed for brush or roller application. For full application guidance, environmental conditions, and equipment setup, refer to the Fiberglass Florida Technical Resource page and the manufacturer's current Awlcraft 3000 Product Data Sheet.
- Surface Preparation: Sand substrate with P320–P400. Clean thoroughly with Awlgrip Surface Cleaner T0170. Prime with 545 Epoxy Primer or Quick Build for best adhesion and film build.
- Mixing: Combine 2 parts Awlcraft 3000 base with 1 part Awlcat #2 (G3010) by volume. Add up to 33% appropriate reducer to achieve 11–15 seconds viscosity (DIN4). Mix thoroughly. Do not exceed 40% reducer.
- Environmental Conditions: Apply only when ambient temperature is 55°F–105°F and surface temperature is at least 5°F above dew point. Avoid direct sunlight during application.
- Application: Apply a smooth wet first coat and allow 15–45 minutes flash time. Apply second coat wet; allow 30–45 minutes flash. Apply third coat wet. Three coats are typically sufficient; light or pastel shades may require four or more.
- Recoating After Cure: If more than 24 hours have passed since the last coat, sand with P400 before recoating to ensure adhesion.
- Finishing: Once fully cured, Awlcraft 3000 can be buffed and polished to restore or enhance gloss.

Gallon vs. Quart — Which Size Should You Order?
Awlcraft 3000 is available in both gallon and quart sizes. The base component is sold separately from the converter and reducer, which must be purchased and mixed at the time of application.
- Gallon — Recommended for full hull repaints, large topside areas, production vessels (25 ft and larger), and professional yards. Best per-square-foot value.
- Quart — Ideal for spot repairs, single-panel touch-ups, smaller vessels (under 25 ft), and color-testing before committing to a full gallon. Reduces material waste on smaller jobs.
Not sure how much you need? Contact Fiberglass Florida — our team can help you estimate coverage based on your boat's surface area and the number of coats planned.
Color Selection & Color Chart
Awlcraft 3000 is available in an extensive color palette using the AkzoNobel YSC color platform. On-screen color swatches on this website are provided for general reference only — digital representations may not accurately reflect the true painted color due to variation in monitor calibration, screen brightness, and color profile settings. For accurate color selection, we strongly recommend ordering a physical Awlcraft 3000 color chart before purchasing.
Transitioning from Awlcraft 2000 colors? Several Awlcraft 2000 colors were not brought forward into the 3000 line, and a number of existing colors were renamed. Well-known Awlcraft 2000 colors including Ice Blue, Light Blue, and Oyster White have equivalents in the 3000 system under updated names. If you are working to match a previous job or continue an existing color scheme, reach out to Fiberglass Florida — we can identify the correct current color name, check availability of remaining Awlcraft 2000 stock for your specific color, and advise on the closest 3000-line match.
What You Need to Complete the System
Awlcraft 3000 base is one component of a multi-product application system. The following are required or strongly recommended:
- Awlcat #2 (G3010) Spray Converter — Required. Mixed 1 part per 2 parts base.
- Awlgrip Spray Reducer — Required. Select based on ambient temperature: T0001 (cool/fast), T0003 (standard), T0005 (hot weather).
- Awlgrip 545 Epoxy Primer or Quick Build — Strongly recommended as a primer basecoat.
- Awlgrip Surface Cleaner T0170 — For surface prep and wipe-down between coats.
- Awlcraft 3000 Physical Color Chart — Recommended before color selection.
Frequently Asked Questions — Awlcraft 3000
Is Awlcraft 3000 the same as Awlcraft 2000?
They share the same base resin technology, mix ratio, compatible reducers, and application equipment. The primary difference is the color tinting system — Awlcraft 3000 uses the AkzoNobel YSC platform (same as Awlgrip HDT) for deeper, truer, more consistent colors.
Can I use Awlcraft 3000 below the waterline?
No. Awlcraft 3000 is formulated for above-waterline surfaces only. It is not suitable for underwater or antifouling use. For below-waterline applications, see our antifouling bottom paint selection.
My Awlcraft 2000 color isn't available in Awlcraft 3000. What do I do?
Not all 2000-series colors were transitioned to the 3000 system, and some colors were renamed. Colors such as Ice Blue, Light Blue, and Oyster White have updated names in the 3000 line. Contact Fiberglass Florida and we'll help identify the correct color, check stock of remaining 2000 material, or find the closest available match in the 3000 palette.
Do the online color swatches accurately represent the final color?
No — on-screen swatches are for general reference only. Monitor calibration, screen brightness, and display color profiles all affect how a color appears on screen. For accurate color selection, order a physical color chart and view it in the same lighting conditions as your application environment.
What primer do I need under Awlcraft 3000?
Best results are achieved over Awlgrip 545 Epoxy Primer or Awlgrip Quick Build. The surface must be sanded with P320–P400 and cleaned with Surface Cleaner T0170 prior to topcoat application.
Where can I find the Awlcraft 3000 technical data sheet and application guide?
Full application instructions, equipment settings, viscosity targets, recoat windows, and environmental requirements are available on our Technical Resources page. You can also contact our team for project-specific guidance.
